The AI Moratorium is dead. Now what?

The AI Regulation Moratorium Just Died 99-1. Here's What That Means.
Breaking: Ted Cruz tried to give Big Tech a 10-year AI regulation holiday. The Senate said "absolutely not" by a vote of 99-1. Ouch.
š What Just Happened
Senator Ted Cruz had an idea: ban states from regulating AI for 10 years. Nothing says "limited government" like... limiting government's ability to govern.
The plan was simple - states back off AI regulation or lose federal funding for broadband and AI infrastructure. Federal blackmail, but make it tech-friendly.
OpenAI's Sam Altman loved it, complaining about having to "comply with 50 different sets of regulations." (Wild concept: following laws in different places.)
But then something happened. Republican governors led by Arkansas's Sarah Huckabee Sanders, told Cruz to pound sand. Tennessee's Marsha Blackburn joined Democrats to murder the whole thing.
Cruz tried a last-minute five-year compromise. The Senate voted 99-1 to delete it. That's about as decisive as votes get.
